Downtown Business Spotlight: Riverlands Artist Studio & Gallery


This week’s Business Spotlight focuses on one of downtown’s incredible art galleries, riverlands Workshop and artist gallery! We spoke with owner and artist Carol Lynn Gilchrist to find out more!

What is your business?

riverlands Artist studio and gallery at 5123 48 Street (Alexander Way).

When did you open?

September 1, 2022 and grand opening from September 10 to 12, 2022.

What do you think makes your business unique?

riverlands is my working studio and the front gallery space features my countryside the artwork, which changes as new works are created, and I have a monthly spotlight on guest artistsboth local and from all over Alberta. riverlands participates in the monthly First Friday Gallery Tour, which encourages the public to engage with artists and art in a festive way.

What are some products/services that you propose ?

Riverlands ooffher variety of fine arts for the purchase in watercolor, acrylic and oil. I also work to order, if a client has a specific idea for a custom painting for their home orr Business. Next month, I will start offering all-day and weekend workshops that will be held in the studio. I look forward to opening the studio for in-person art lessons to small groups. The instructors will be my guests exponent artists, so that workshop participants are exposed to and inspired by the instructors artwork hung in the gallery, which will provide a wonderful and immersive viewing experience.

Why did you choose downtown Red Deer as the location for your business?

After a decade of working from my small home studio, I jumped at the chance to have a large commercial studio and gallery downtown, to have a bigger presence in the communityto highlight other artists, and a display case sell my art.

In your opinion, what makes the city center dynamic?

Downtown Red Deer has a wonderful collection of CEOs; small service companies, unique shops and restaurants, which contribute to the distinct feeling or energy. Jits attractive physical environment is enhanced with a variety of foreseen activities and events throughout the year, which helps citizens discoverto hidden gems.

I love downtown Red Deer because there is a sense of community, and growth vitality along Alexander Way, Small Gaetz and Ross Street that will have an impact on the entire downtown area region.
