Kansas City artist, featured music at Jazz Up Glen Ellyn


GLEN ELLYN, IL — The sounds of live jazz and blues will fill the streets of downtown Glen Ellyn when Jazz Up Glen Ellyn returns on July 16. This year’s theme is “Goin’ to Kansas City” and the festival will feature performances by and inspired by Kansas City saxophonist and composer Bobby Watson, perform with bands throughout the day.

“Jazz history goes back up Mississippi. From New Orleans, jazz found its next home in Kansas City, the home of Count Basie, Charlie Parker and the birthplace of BeBop,” wrote the artistic director of Jazz Up. Glen Ellyn Fareed Haque on the event. website.

“Kansas City is known for its bluesy, energetic transitional style. It has been said that if New Orleans was the birthplace of jazz, [but] “American music ‘grew up in Kansas City,'” Haque added.

Live performances will be featured on the stage near Pennsylvania and Main and the musicians will also be featured on a large LED screen.

The 2022 Jazz Up Glen Ellyn schedule is as follows:

  • 2 p.m.: Kansas City Blues and the Abstract Truth
  • 3 p.m.: Second Line Top Hat
  • 3:15 p.m.: Bellas Artes Music School Jazz Faculty
  • 4:15 p.m.: Reggie Thomas Quartet
  • 4:30 p.m.: Eric Schneider Quintet
  • 5:30 p.m.: Yes! Mahalia
  • 5:45 p.m.: Fareed Haque and Friends
  • 7 p.m.: Marquis Carroll Group

Spectators can attend for free with standard seating or reserve a 10-foot-by-10-foot premium seating square on Main Street to view both the stage and the LED stream. Seats closest to the stage are $100 each and seats at the back are $80 each.

Those who snag premium seats can have food, wine and other refreshments delivered directly to their reserved space.
