Radio DJ launches Irish Artist Music Week petition on all Irish stations

The campaign is a response to the current challenges facing musicians during the pandemic.

A DJ on the local Galway Kinvara radio station FM has started a petition for an Irish Artist Music Week on all Irish radio stations.

The petition responds to the current challenges facing musicians during the pandemic and because of the quality of music on the current stage.

The petition of DJ Ben McCormack runs on and is directed to the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sports and Media. It reads:

Today we are in a golden age for music produced and played by Irish musicians and artists. The quality and variety of the music developed on our island is incomparable. Unfortunately, at present the possibilities for musicians to have their work appreciated are limited and made worse by the lack of Irish music being broadcast on national radio and television stations.

The aim of the petition is to provide Irish artists with greater radio exposure, to contribute to artists’ income and to further develop appreciation for Irish talent.

McCormack Hosts The Ben McCormack Show on Kinvara FM, a two hour show dedicated to Irish music. He was previously one of the pop punksters of Limerick The Hitchers.
